News: White House Announces Executive Order on Industrial Energy Efficiency, including Combined Heat and Power

Today, President Obama signed an Executive Order to accelerate investments in industrial energy efficiency, including combined heat and power (CHP). Accelerating investment in industrial energy efficiency in a way that benefits manufacturers, utilities, and consumers can improve American manufacturing competitiveness and create jobs while improving our nation's energy system and reducing harmful emissions. The Executive Order: sets a national goal of 40 gigawatts (GW) of new CHP installation over the next decade; directs agencies to foster a national dialogue through ongoing regional workshops to encourage the adoption of best practice policies and investment models that overcome the numerous barriers to investment, provide public information on the benefits of unlocking investment in industrial energy efficiency, and use existing Federal authorities that can support these investments; and directs the Departments of Energy, Commerce, and Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency, to coordinate actions at the Federal level while providing policy and technical assistance to states to promote investments in industrial energy efficiency.

News: Nominations Sought for 2012 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting nominations for the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards. Green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce both the use and generation of chemicals that are hazardous to the environment and people's health. Nominations are due to the agency by December 31, 2011.

News: Shipping Crates Recycled into Commercial Hardwood Flooring

Viridian Wood has debuted two FSC-certified exotic hardwood flooring products that are 100 percent reclaimed from shipping pallets and crates. The commercial-grade products are called Jakarta Market Blend and Fishtail Oak. Viridian says both flooring products are extremely hard (Jakarta: 1,100-3,500 Janka scale, Fishtail: 1,450 Janka scale) and well suited to high-traffic or commercial applications, and are available unfinished and factory-finished in a low-VOC polyurethane. Viridian flooring is solid-strip and comes in a 2�-inch width and 5/8-inch thickness, in random lengths of 2 feet to 6� feet. Viridian says its hardwood flooring products can contribute points toward LEED credits MRc3: (Materials Reuse), MRc4 (Recycled Content), MRc5 (Regional Materials) and MRc7 (Certified Wood).

NEWMOA developed this online resource to enable P2 and environmental assistance programs to share their P2 data collection tools. The overall purpose of this effort is to provide a way for programs to share these tools so that they can learn from each other and not have to reinvent them. P2 data collection tools include surveys, worksheets, self-certification forms, protocols and standard operating practices (SOPs) for follow-up to P2 technical assistance visits, quality management plans (QMPs), and/or checklists that P2 programs use to collect information from their clients. These data collection tools are used to understand the behavioral, environmental, and financial results from site visits, workshops or training events, and in response to an email, phone inquiry, or other social media technology. Users can customize their Search based on the relevant sector or topic, type of P2 activity, or type of P2 data collection tool used. They can also Add their own data collection tools to the system.

The National Pollution Prevention Roundtable (NPPR) is now accepting nomination applications for the 2009 MVP2 Awards! The applications are due Wednesday July 1, 2009. The MVP2 Awards are awarded in four categories: MVP2 Project/Program Awards, Best P2 Publication Awards, P2 Champion, and P2 Volunteer of the Year Award. Winners will be notified in August 2009. The awards will be presented during P2 week in September.
