This in turn supports a growing number of buyers of milk and dairy products that are interested in this information to understand the sustainability performance of their supply chains.

The indicators in the Guide are based on the Innovation Center's lifecycle assessment studies and practical input from the industry members and other experts including NGOs, government organizations, customers and academics. They can be used by dairy farmers and dairy processors in conjunction with Innovation Center tools like F?arm Smart?TM, Plant Smart?TM and Fleet Smart?TM, to track their progress over time and to identify areas for efficiencies and opportunities.
View more information on this resource

Resource: Success story: General Mills

By redesigning one of its food products and optimizing the related manufacturing processes on one production line, General Mills saves more than $760,000 and reduces 640,000 pounds of ingredient waste annually. This is the major finding of a new report from The Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative, a collaboration of nine of the world's leading anti-hunger, conservation and development organizations. This report highlights how some visionary companies that rely upon coffee, cocoa, water, and other resources in the developing world are going beyond piecemeal sustainability projects to take a more holistic approach.
View more information on this resource

News: Häagen-Dazs to pilot sustainable vanilla sourcing program

The brand known for its rich ice cream is hoping to spread some riches back to vanilla's source: the farmers in Madagascar who supply Häagen-Dazs and its parent company, Minneapolis-based General Mills.
Read

News: Sustainability as Innovation Strategy: How Sustainability and Innovation Drive Each Other and Company Competitiveness at Danone

Sustainability is a powerful way to generate innovation at Danone, producing creativity through presenting new problems to solve, establishing big goals that force people to think differently and fostering contradictions.
