Accidental Release Prevention Requirements: Risk Management Program Section 112 (r) (7)
Abstract: The Risk Management Program Rule, promulgated on June 21, 1996 under the Clean Air Act as Amended in 1990, stated: "The [Risk Management Plan] shall be submitted in method and format to a central point as specified by EPA prior to June 21, 1999." EPA adopted the recommendations of a subcommittee of the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee to require electronic submission of and access to Risk Management Plans. The final announcement of the "method and format" for RMP submission was published in the Federal Register in January 1999.

Chemical Security Act of 2003 (S.157) [PDF]
Abstract: Senator John Corzine (D-NJ) proposed this bill to the 108th Congress. This bill proposes some measures to reduce potential impacts through prevention efforts. It directs the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to promulgate regulations to: (1) designate certain combinations of chemical sources and substances of concern as high priority categories based on the severity of the threat posed by an unauthorized release from chemical sources; and (2) require each owner and operator of a high priority category chemical source to conduct an assessment of the vulnerability of the source to a terrorist attack or other unauthorized release, identify hazards that may result from such release, and prepare a prevention, preparedness, and response plan. Design for the Environment (DfE) Computer Display Partnership
Abstract: The DfE Computer Display Partnership, along with the electronics industry, evaluated the life-cycle environmental impacts, performance, and cost of technologies that are used in desktop computer monitors?namely, cathode ray tubes (CRT) and liquid crystal displays (LCD). This project generated data to assist original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers in the electronics field in incorporating environmental considerations into their decision-making processes and identify areas for improvement. This project combined both the Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the Cleaner Technologies Substitutes Assessment (CTSA) approaches to analyze the environmental impacts, performance, and cost of both CRT and LCD desktop monitors.

The Green Chemistry Institute (American Chemical Society)
Abstract: The Green Chemistry Institute (GCI) is a non-profit organization within the American Chemical Society (ACS) founded to promote green chemistry through research, education, information dissemination, conferences & symposia, and international collaboration. GCI works across disciplines and academic, government, and industry sectors to promote the development and implementation of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. The GCI web site provides information on green chemistry awards programs, educational materials, a list of educational institutions that offer academic green chemistry programs, links to international chapters of the GCI, news, information on upcoming green chemistry meetings/conferences, research opportunities, and resources for further information.

U.S. EPA Security Strategy
Abstract: In September 2002, EPA published a Strategic Plan for Homeland Security outlining the Agency's activities and initiatives through fiscal year 2005 in support of homeland security. The 2004 Homeland Security Strategy (PDF) (68 pp, 1.6 Mb) updates this earlier effort and furthers EPA's strategic planning process. Specifically, the update takes into consideration the Agency's available resources through fiscal year 2005, recent Presidential Directives and expectations, and the evolving role of the Department of Homeland Security.

The site provides easy access to research and results on methods, tools, and data needed to improve risk assessments to protect the public.
