Profile:

  • CBE works to promote livable communities through its transportation and land use program. Since 1990 CBE has worked on creating a balanced transportation system and more compact growth in Wisconsin. Our accomplishments and current work include: Helping establish the New Transportation Alliance (NTA), a broad-based coalition advocating for increased funding of alternative transportation and sound land use. Working with NTA, the Alliance for Future Transit, and others to advocate for light rail, commuter rail, and help save Amtrak's Chicago-Milwaukee service. Creating model development plans in four Southeast Wisconsin communities to illustrate livable community designs. Preparing resource materials for communities on pedestrian-friendly development. Educating the public and descision-makers about the costs of sprawl. Developing a network of local officials, organizations, and others that support smart growth.

GLRPPR is a member of the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange, a national network of regional information centers: NEWMOA (Northeast), WRRC (Southeast), GLRPPR (Great Lakes), ZeroWasteNet (Southwest), P2RIC (Plains), Peaks to Prairies (Mountain), WSPPN (Pacific Southwest), PPRC (Northwest).
