Profile:

  • In 1995, Governor Tom Ridge created the Office of the Great Lakes to devote full-time attention to Great Lakes issues. On the local level, the Office is responsible for the development of a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) for Presque Isle Bay, an Area Of Concern (AOC). A RAP is developed to examine the problems in the AOC, determine the sources of the problem, and specify the action to be taken to correct these problems. On the state level, the Office works closely with the Great Lakes Commission, the Council of Great Lakes Governors, and the Great Lakes Protection Fund. Internationally, the Office is responsible for the development of a Lakewide Management Plan (LaMP) for Lake Erie.
