  • Founded in 1817, the New York Academy of Sciences is the third oldest scientific organization in America and one of New York City's oldest and most enduring cultural institutions. The Academy is an independent, nonprofit organization with nearly 25,000 members in more than 160 countries united by a commitment to promoting science and technology and their essential roles in fostering social and economic development. The NYAS has initiated a five-year project to reduce toxicants from flowing into the NY/NJ Harbor by using the methodology of Industrial Ecology and emphasizing outreach and communication in order to produce, publish and promote specific pollution prevention plans.

GLRPPR is a member of the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange, a national network of regional information centers: NEWMOA (Northeast), WRRC (Southeast), GLRPPR (Great Lakes), ZeroWasteNet (Southwest), P2RIC (Plains), Peaks to Prairies (Mountain), WSPPN (Pacific Southwest), PPRC (Northwest).
