Title:
De Caro Manufacturing Begins Their Journey on the Road to Pollution Prevention

Abstract:
De Caro Manufacturing is a metal plating facility in Toronto that manufactures fireplaces, fireplace accessories, airport weight scales and other metal products. To meet the objectives of the Toronto Region Sustainability Program, De Caro underwent a pollution prevention assessment by a consulting firm, Cotter Associates Ltd. The review mapped all process in the facility and identified three main processes: degreasing, plating, and painting. This case study outlines the recommendations made to De Caro as a result of this review. The recommended changes are expected to reduce usage of trichloroethylene, toluene, xylene, copper, zinc and cyanide, and result in an estimated savings of $5.8K per year.
