GLRPPR Sector Resource: Rates of Microbial Dechlorination of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in Anaerobic Sediments from Waukegan Harbor

Title:
Rates of Microbial Dechlorination of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in Anaerobic Sediments from Waukegan Harbor

Abstract:
In the present study, the degradation of PCB congeners in Waukegan Harbor sediments incubated under anaerobic conditions was examined. In addition, concentrations of PCBs in the sediments of 19 stations in the harbor and the rates of PCB dechlorination were determined. The data suggest that PCBs can be, at least partially, dechlorinated in sediments under anoxic conditions. (PDF Format; Length: 51 pages)
