GLRPPR Sector Resource: Estimated Annual Outflow of Mercury-Containing Thermostats in Illinois

Title:
Estimated Annual Outflow of Mercury-Containing Thermostats in Illinois

Abstract:
Study performed by Skumatz Economic Research Associates (SERA) finding that over 1.86 million mercury thermostats are currently in use in Illinois, and that an average of 102,000 mercury thermostats will be discarded each year from 2014-2019. The study relies upon surveys and statistical techniques to derive these findings, similar to the study SERA conducted on behalf of thermostat manufacturers in California, and relied upon by state officials in California to set mercury thermostat collection goals for the industry take-back program.
