Coolant Recycling and Waste Water Reduction Alternatives for the Aluminum Disc Polishing Industry

Abstract:
This Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC; Formerly WMRC) case study highlights efforts of a manufacturer of aluminum discs used for CD-ROMs and other computer peripherals to recycle its coolant and reduce the volume of wastewater discharged from its facility. Membrane filtration technology was used for the recycling of the coolants. The suggestions of ISTC technical staff members resulting in significant materials and economic savings.
