Informational Report of the Legislative Council Date Processing Subcommittee
Statutory and Legislative Council Directives: On June 7, 2011, the Legislative Council assigned the following study topic to the Subcommittee: Studying and report back to the Legislative Council regarding the potential savings to be realized through the use of iPad-type technology in the General Assembly. Include in the study a review of what other states are doing and an analysis of the potential cost savings, flexibility and convenience of such devices.
Introduction and Reasons for Study: The Indiana General Assembly literally uses tons of paper every year to carry out its responsibilities. The House of Representatives and the Senate have been taking steps to
incorporate new technology into the legislative process to reduce the costs related to producing, copying, distributing, storing, and retrieving legislative information in paper format. The recent release of tablet computer devices such as the iPads has the potential of providing additional opportunities to improve the legislative process.
