Abstract:
The mission of the NCPV is to mobilize national [U.S.] resources in photovoltaics by performing world-class research and development, promoting partnering and growth opportunities, and serving as a forum and information source for the photovoltaics community. The Center is headquartered at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. But it is located wherever its members do business. The primary members of the NCPV come from the photovoltaics groups at NREL and Sandia National Laboratories or SNL (in Albuquerque, New Mexico). The NREL/SNL "virtual lab" operates through the Center's Strategic Leadership and Operations Team, which consists of NREL and SNL photovoltaics managers. Most work by the National Center for Photovoltaics falls within the listed capabilities: Material and Device Development, Measurements and Characterization, Module and Systems Development, Performance and Reliability Testing, Manufacturing and Deployment, Solar Resource Characterization, and Market Development and Outreach.

The NCPV website provides an overview of PV systems and the research and development performed by the center. The "partnering and growth" section includes success stories and overviews of the partnering projects and growth initiatives the center is a part of. The "information resources" section provides technical information, estimation tools, a PV yellow pages, and a listing of PV-related events.
