GLRPPR Sector Resource: Biomass Program (U.S. Department of Energy--Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy)

Title:
Biomass Program (U.S. Department of Energy--Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy)

Abstract:
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Biomass Program develops technology for conversion of biomass (plant-derived material) to valuable fuels, chemicals, materials and power, so as to reduce dependence on foreign oil and foster growth of biorefineries. The extensive program web site describes the benefits of biomass, provides an overview of biomass today, includes information on feedstocks, provides information on conversion technologies (including the thermochemical platform and the sugar platform), provides information on biobased products research and development, includes a section on integrated biorefineries, and provides life-cycle analysis information. A searchable biomass document database is also available.
