GLRPPR Sector Resource: Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Schools Topic Hub
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Schools Topic Hub
This primer is intended as a quick guide to the essential pollution prevention (P2) information on integrated pest management (IPM) for schools, as well as a compilation of pertinent on-line resources. The "Background and Overview" section introduces the subject of School Integrated Pest Management. The "Operations" section contains detailed information on pest management issues, and where pests are found throughout the school (interior) and outside the school (exterior--on the campus). It involves every aspect of the school, from the obvious locations (cafeteria) to the less conspicuous (lockers and desks). The "Reasons for Change" section outlines benefits and justifications for implementing integrated pest management plans in schools. The "Barriers to Change" section discusses factors that may impede implementation of integrated pest management practices at schools. Other sections include: Case Studies, Environmental Regulations, P2 Opportunities, Curricula, a Glossary of Terms and Key Contacts. This Topic Hub was developed and is maintained by the Great Lakes Regional Pollution Prevention Roundtable (GLRPPR) as part of the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx) national Topic Hub project. For more information about P2Rx and the Topic Hubs, see http://www.p2rx.org.
