GLRPPR Sector Resource: Light-Duty Automotive Technology, Carbon Dioxide Emissions, and Fuel Economy Trends: 1975 - 2017

Title:
Light-Duty Automotive Technology, Carbon Dioxide Emissions, and Fuel Economy Trends: 1975 - 2017

Abstract:
Since 1975, EPA has published its annual "Trends" Report. The report provides a historic time line of key fuel economy and technology usage changes related to light-duty vehicles (i.e., cars, vans, sports utility vehicles, and pickup trucks) sold in the United States. For the first time, because of increasing production, data from alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) are integrated into the overall database, beginning with MY 2011 data. These vehicles include electric vehicles, plug in hybrids, and compressed natural gas vehicles. The database continues to include traditional hybrids and ethanol flexible fuel vehicles (assumed to operate on gasoline).
