Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO)—Final Rule

Abstract:
Information on the final rule for CAFOs, signed December 15, 2002, that requires all CAFO operators to obtain permits to protect water from wastewater and manure. The rule controls agricultural runoff from livestock feeding operations. This web site provides the text of the final in parts (all in PDF format), as well as brochures on the final rule specific to various types of CAFOs in both English and Spanish. The site also provides a link to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit writers’ guidance manual and an example NPDES permit for CAFOs.
